young grasshopper.

Today was a very nice day. It was sunny and a bit warm. Mom and dad left today. I feel like when they left was more like the official start to life on my own. I have all the tools, I have the know-how, now it's just building the right foundation. I'm excited -- you get to redefine yourself a bit when you enter college, but I don't really think that many college freshmen have the understanding to really choose a good definition... it's almost that the transition is too overwhelming. Well, I've been given that opportunity again -- no one here knows me, so I can be whomever I want to be. I don't know if I have the understanding to choose well, but I am much more alive in my faith than I was back then, so I have hope. Here is a brief description of who I would like to choose to be -- I want to be confident and humble. I want to give freely and love freely. I want to be known as a person of my word and faith. I want to live out peace and joy. I want to speak wisdom. I feel all of those kinda depend on my relationship with God. Even in quick observation, all of those increase as my time with God increases. I know what I have to do.

I went to the library and got a library card (I'm now a member at 5 different libraries! woooooo!) and the library is great. I rode my longboard around and went also to Hard Drive Cafe. It has a nice atmosphere, but I think that it is over priced.... but then again, it is a coffee shop in a tourist town....

I picked up The Great Gatsby at the library. I've never read it before, and I figured it was time. You don't know who F. Scott Fitzgerald is? That's ok, he didn't know who you are either.

Church this morning was alright. I think that I am going to attend a few others in the weeks to come. The windows behind the pastor look right out on a ski slope... might be a distraction in the winter time... But in the bulletin there was an announcement for a women's night tonight, so I went to that and met some people and got some crochet done. Neat. I also got the phone number of a gal who just moved here as well and she is 28. Huzzah!

My homework for my first few weeks here is to explore somewhere new, learn something new or meet someone new each day. Maybe I should do that for life instead of just the first few weeks....

I was teaching myself how to weave grass together as I sat down by the creek, and let me tell you, it's not easy. I can't figure out how they would weave baskets underwater. I just can't believe it.

wish you were here.
