Life has been pretty busy as of recent times.
Last weekend I went to Moab, (Utah, not the Holy Land) and it was good times. Brad, Joel and I, packed up the little roller skate of a car and drove down for a long weekend. Oh man. So, we left Thursday after I got out of work and we stayed at Joel's friend's place in Salt Lake City for the night. So far, so good. Then after almost deciding to go to IKEA for breakfast (ok, so maybe I was the only one serious about that) we found our way to Einstein's Bagels (good place) and then hit the road again, arriving in Moab around 2. Perfect. The weather was great and beautiful and wow. So we climbed a bit -- Joel pulled me up the rock -- and a good time was had by all. So then we go to the store get some groceries and drive to a camp ground to set up camp. There was a big bike race going on there that weekend so most places were full, but we found a spot that seemed alright. --And by camp I mean, we had a two-man tent for two men and one lady to all fit in. And it was windy. So we decide that we'll eat dinner in town. Because everyone knows that the wind dies as soon as the sun goes down... WRONG. ha ha ha ha. (Dinner was great, btw) So we go back to our campsite and get a fire going with some of the wood we bought and it's still crazy windy and the sun is most definitely down. So after a while of smoke in the face, we decide to call it a night and cozy on into our sleeping bags. It was very cozy in there. There was a lot of being cozy and steam-rolling. ha ha ha ha. anyway, let me get to the good part. So. The wind is not dying, it's actually building. And there is a lot of sand -- everywhere. And we realized that when we got back from dinner someone (who will not be named...) left the flap of the tent open and there is a lot of sand in the tent, and sleeping bags, etc. But anyway, as the night progresses, we are crammed into this tent, and we constantly are hearing the wind howl and flap and tear around us... and then the best part of all, the wind picks up the fine powder-dust sand, blows it up under the rain-fly and then the sand comes pouring down onto us.... ALL NIGHT LONG. ha ha ha ha ha. man oh man. we each got about an hour of sleep. When we got up the next morning there was sand in our noses and ears and mouths and the folds of our eyelids and there was a fine dusting over the entire floor and thermo-rests....wa-wa. And the wind still hadn't died at all. We couldn't even keep the zippo lighter from blowing out. So we packed up and went out for breakfast and dipped our napkins in our glasses of water and gave our faces sponge baths and it was good. Then I rode a bike. I wasn't a fan. The wind still was crazy. Joel grabbed his bike by the frame and the wind held it out completely perpendicular from his body. I held onto the rocks. Thats all I have to say about that.
Then we left Moab and got lost on forest service roads. Then we met up with Bret, who was sweet and his group of people were amazing and we had good food and good showers and a good night sleep. Then we made breakfast burritos the next morning and went climbing. Everyone thinks that Brad and Joel are studs. Everyone is right. Then we got a pretty late start back to Jackson and drove in lots of snow and ice and deer and night. Awesome trip.
Moab, not the Holy Land, but kinda is.
Brad leading the first climb of the trip.
Joel is at the top leading. That rock was like sandpaper.
This is us next to the rollerskate.
A good day on Wall Street.
Here is Brad and I riding on the service roads, Joel is driving.
Sweet. Uranium Mines.
Since I've been back I've been work work working.
I found out while I was gone though that my grandpa had a stroke. He's going to be in rehab for a while, but he is paralyzed on his right side and can't speak. We're not expecting that to come back, It's really rough on all of my family, so if you want to keep us in your prayers, that would be appreciated.
I love you all. Don't forget how precious the people that you love (and even those you don't) are.
:) xoxo, lisa
